Texas USDA Loan Requirements | How to Check an East Texas Address
Shopping around Hallsville, Gilmer, Diana, or another East Texas community? A home’s mailing city does not tell you whether it qualifies for a USDA home loan. The exact property address matters.
Three checks for a Texas USDA home loan
- Property address. Enter the full street address in the official USDA property eligibility map and select Single Family Housing Guaranteed.
- Household income. Ask which income counts and which limit applies for your household size and the home’s location.
- Borrower eligibility. A lender reviews credit, repayment ability and plans to occupy the home. Have a listing in mind? Ask Blake to review an East Texas address with you.
Start with the address, not the ZIP code
USDA Rural Development provides an official property eligibility tool. Select the Single Family Housing Guaranteed program and search the full address. If you are still browsing neighborhoods, the map can help you narrow the search. Check the specific home again when you have an address; map boundaries and program rules can change.
What an eligible address does—and does not—mean
An address in an eligible area is one part of the review. USDA’s Guaranteed Loan Program also has household income, occupancy, property, credit, and repayment requirements. Your lender must review the full application. A map result is not a loan approval.
USDA describes this program as offering 100% financing for eligible borrowers, which can mean no required down payment. You may still have closing costs, prepaid taxes and insurance, and other upfront expenses. The amount you need depends on the loan and transaction. Your Loan Estimate will show the estimated cash to close.
A practical way to shop
Save the full address of each home you are considering.
Check it in USDA’s property eligibility tool.
Discuss household income and the rest of your situation with a mortgage professional.
Compare the estimated payment and cash to close with other loan options before choosing a program.
